Professor and Hydromechanics Lab Director, Department of Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering, United States Naval Academy, USA (http://www.usna.edu/naoe/faculty/schultz.php).

Mike attended Florida Institute of Technology where he studied Ocean Engineering and was awarded B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees. His Ph.D. work, under the guidance of Professor Geoff Swain, focused on the hydrodynamics of marine biofilms. This research was supported by a Link Engineering Fellowship and the Office of Naval Research (ONR). In 2000, he became an Assistant Professor in the Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering Department at USNA, and since 2010, he has been a Professor there. From 2010 – 2014, Mike served as Director of the Ocean Engineering Program, and he is currently the Director of the USNA Hydromechanics Laboratory. His research interests include experimental fluid dynamics, turbulence, and biofouling. Mike has published over 150 journal and conference papers in these areas. Mike received the R.T. Knapp Award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers for the most outstanding research paper in fluid dynamics in both 2004 and 2011. In 2006, he received the Raouf Award from the Division of Engineering & Weapons at USNA for teaching excellence in engineering, and in the same year, he received the USNA Research Excellence Award. In 2010, Mike was awarded the USNA Teaching Excellence Award. In 2014, he was named a Fellow of American Physical Society. Mike has served on the editorial board of Biofouling since 2002.
