Dr Andrew Turner has been at Plymouth University, SW England, for 20 years and is currently Reader in Aquatic Biogeochemistry and leader of the Environmental Science undergraduate programme. His research interests include (i) the speciation, adsorption, modelling and bioaccumulation of trace metals and inorganic contaminants in fresh, estuarine and marine waters, (ii) the behaviour of nanoparticles and pharmaceutical chemicals in natural waters, (iii) the environmental impacts and health risks of antifouling wastes, (iv) the bioaccessibilities of metals and metalloids in household dust, (v) the environmental impacts of marine litter, and (vi) the application of field portable XRF to characterize anthropogenic solids. He has published over 150 articles in the peer-reviewed literature (h-index = 30, total citations = 2,800, average impact factor = 3.02) and has supervised 15 PhD students and more than 100 Masters’ research students. He has been invited to deliver over 20 keynote presentations on a range of research topics, and is currently on the editorial board of Marine Pollution Bulletin, is an associate editor for Marine Chemistry, and is a member of the international committee on Estuarine Biogeochemistry.
