Prof. Mikhail Zheludkevich is currently Head of department of Corrosion and Surface Technologies at Helmholtz Zentrum Geesthacht. He is also professor in University of Kiel as well as invited part-time professor at University of Aveiro. In 1998 he graduated with distinction from the Belarusian State University and in 2002 took his PhD degree in Physical Chemistry at the same University. Since 2003 he started as post-doc researcher and became a group leader in Universiry of Aveiro where he actively worked on development of new active protective coatings as well as on mechanistic understanding of corrosion mechanisms using localised electrochemical techniques. Since 2014 he leads department at Helmholtz Zentrum Geesthacht with main focus on multi-functional surfaces and active protection of light materials and multi-material systems. He is also co-founder of SmallMaTek company which is active in the area of functional nanocontainers. Prof. Zheludkevich has published more than 120 ISI papers, 10 book chapters, has presented more than 25 invited and key-note talks at international conferences and is co-inventor in 10 patent applications. The current H-index is 35. Additionally he is member of technical group in Research Fund for Coal and Steel and is vice-chairman of Aerospace Working Party at European Federation of Corrosion.
